Program highlights
Here are a few of the coverages included in the SAOT program:
- Professional liability
- Penal legal costs
- Legal Guard phone assistance
- Therapy counselling endorsement
There is an option to add on additional coverages including:
Professional liability insurance
As a member of a regulated profession, a complaint may be made about you by a member of the public or another professional to the College of Occupational Therapists of Alberta. You may also be sued in a civil suit as a result of perceived professional error or omission. You may even be charged by police in a criminal matter such as fraud, child or sexual abuse. Regardless of the validity of the complaint, suit, or charge, legal expenses are likely to be incurred related to investigation and defence processes or any disciplinary penalties or damages awarded.
Commercial General Liability
This form of protection complements your professional liability insurance by insuring claims which are not professional in nature. That includes bodily injury, property damage, libel and slander. For examples, if someone slips and falls on the premises, this coverage would apply. If you practice independently, it’s very important to explore the benefits of this coverage.
